Verdicchio

The wine Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi is the most famous and historically known wine.
It is a very old vine, born in Marches lands and then moved to Friuli, Veneto, Tuscany and Campania.
Traditionally, the rows extend on the hills along Esino river. These places show a gentle and well-defined morphology, where the cultivation of vine in Marches Region had its origin.

The geographic area called “Castelli di Jesi” has its main epicentre in Aesis, that is Jesi, a town loved by Frederick II, and well-known in ancient times as an important pilgrims crossroad and trade point.
The castles around Jesi still keep the names: Castelbellino, Castelplanio, Maiolati, Monte Roberto and Cupramontana.
There are many important poetical quotations about Verdicchio, such as the one by Aretino, a well-known Tuscan poet of ‘500. He always used to defame anything and anyone, but he described this wine using very sweet love words talking about its dietetic features.

Today Verdicchio enjoys world-wide renown: it is the first DOC in Marches Region for the production quantities, and is well-known in all the world. It takes the name “classico” (classic) only when produced in the oldest and most traditional area defined by DOC. The gentle hills along Esino river as far as the mouth give this wine a dry and harmonious taste, with an almond aftertaste.
The colour is light straw yellow, brilliant, with a characteristic delicate bouquet.
